Weekend Fun for Moms, Daughters, Nieces and Friends!

April 7, 2016 By Kate Skero 3 Comments

Hey ladies! Looking for a great way to have a girls’ night this weekend? I know I’ll take any excuse to get out with my mom friends and let my boys have a night with Daddy. I also love opportunities to take my nieces out and do something we all enjoy!

Well you (and I) are in luck, because a fun, clean dance movie called High Strung is coming to theaters April 8th! I was excited to partner with the makers of High Strung so that I could prescreen it online and give YOU an inside scoop on the film.

The movie follows Ruby Adams on her first day as a ballet student trying to make it in New York City. She gets tangled up with Johnnie Blackwell who is a British street violinist. Both are competing in their own respects: Ruby to keep her scholarship and Johnnie to keep his visa. Ruby and Johnnie’s gifting plays off from one another and complements each other to create an enthralling plot line.

Check out the trailer and get EXCITED with me:

The movie is filled with ballet, contemporary dance, hip-hop, and beautiful music that will have even the most serious grandpa tapping his toe. You’ll have to see the movie yourself to truly appreciate the artistry in all of the choreography and instrumentation. But let me just say, if there’s anything in you that enjoys music or can appreciate dance–you’ll enjoy it. I know it brought back many fond memories of my younger years as a dancer!

And it’s great because it’s a clean movie. Younger girls and dancers can go without their mothers blushing or getting bored. Too many dance movies that came out while I was a young and impressionable dancer had sex scenes and language–but save for two mild curse words and some kissing–High Strung checks out.

With an overall message of working hard to achieve goals and being a loyal friend in the process, I would definitely see this with my nieces OR my friends.

This movie hits theaters  tomorrow! Check here to see where it’s playing. I would love to hear back from you if you go and see it!

I got to pre-screen this one, too :) I love that the street musician is musically literate and we see him composing his own piece (and writing it down!) even while playing ‘non classical’ music on the violin. Neat movie!

Looks like a good movie! I’ll look for it. Lately, there has been nothing that appeals to me in the theaters.
