Hey parents! In the age of the iPhone, there are thousands of apps available to us. These little handheld computers have so much potential to help us optimize our lives. Orrrr they can clutter up our screens and slow things down. That’s why today, I’m sharing my top five apps for parents–apps that I simply LOVE as a mom. Not apps for the kids, apps because of the kids. I’d love to hear what apps you use and love in the comments!
This is a sponsored post brought to you by intelliARMOR. All opinions, tips and images are 100% mine.
So here’s MY top five list:
Little Hoots
This is an app that allows you to type out whatever your little rascal just said and puts it into a stylized meme that is easy to both save and share! If you have a child who is still getting the hang of the English language, it is such a great app to have. I know I am amused throughout the day by my 3-year-old’s wild phrases. I often wish I could remember them at least long enough to tell my husband at the end of the day! This helps me lock in the memory so I never forget the sayings of my outlandish little guy and I can even share the laugh with the other adults who adore him.
Bible for Kids
This is my go-to app for soul-nourishing entertainment when we’re in a pinch.
Small bunny trail here: while I try not to make a habit of letting my kids play on my phone, sometimes it gives a dose of needed peace while I complete a task. Maybe grocery shopping spilled over into nap time or maybe we’re at a restaurant that is taking longer than we’d anticipated to bring out the kids’ food. I would rather bust out my phone than abandon my shopping cart or leave the restaurant hungry, ya know? We all have our opinions about screen time, especially in public places but that’s where I fall.
So if I’m going to give my kids some unplanned screen time on MY phone (because their tablet is not with us), then I want it to be good stuff that their looking at. Bible for Kids is that app for me. You have to download stories when you have service or wifi, but then it can be used without any connection.
A narrator reads the stories, but the words are also there if your kiddo is able to read. Then there are interactive story scenes that make sounds when touched. There are quiz questions to aid with comprehension too! It’s really beautifully made and theologically sound. It’s perfect as a Bible on the go, and it also helps my kids to get excited about Scripture. And the fact that it’s free is just a gift to parents everywhere.
Artkive
Love your kid’s masterpieces but getting a little bogged down with paper clutter? This is so me. Even if you have a great system for saving their artwork, it’s never fun or easy to rummage to the bottom of a dusty box to find that one thing you’re looking for. That’s why I love ArtKive. Take photos of your kids’ artwork in the Artkive app, record the date, age of the child, any extra notes and save them in a gallery so you can look back at them whenever you want! It’s easy to keep track of multiple children’s work too! And hey, it beats digging to the bottom of a dusty box to look back at their little creations, ya know?
Timehop
This is a popular app so maybe you already have it, but if you don’t GET IT. As a millennial mom, this app is something I’m checking every day. It pulls all of your social media posts from the current date through each year. I love showing my 3-year-old himself two years ago. It is the sweetest way to get a small taste of your memories as you live a new day.
Mom Maps
While I cannot speak to the helpfulness of this app in every town everywhere, it is wonderfully useful in more populated places. It lists parks, playgrounds, restaurants, museums and indoor play areas around you! So if you’re in an unfamiliar place or if you just aren’t sure what’s around you for kids, take a look at what Mom Maps can find for you! If you know an area well, you can help make the app better by adding a Kid Spot, too. You can get the Mom Maps app for free or there is a paid version for 2.99. I have not used the paid version personally but I would guess it’s even better.
And as a parent, we all know that keeping our iPhones protected is no easy task. We’re pulling them out and putting them away many times a day. Little smudgey fingers love to find their way to our screens. It’s important to choose the best screen protector we can to keep our screens intact.
I have been using an intelliGLASS hardened glass screen protector for nearly a year now and can vet for their effectiveness. My iPhone has taken a few accidental tumbles onto concrete in that time and while my screen should’ve shattered, the intelliGLASS screen protector took a small crack instead. Screen protectors can be replaced inexpensively but actual iPhone screens? Not so much.
Now, IntelliARMOR has come out with a screen protector that also protects its users! Their new Anti-Radiation Screen Protector has been shown to reduce cell phone radiation levels directed toward the head up to 69% (by an independent lab.)
What I appreciate most is the installation kit with its easy-to-follow instructions that help anyone to confidently apply their IntelliGLASS screen protector with exact precision.
So whatever apps you find most helpful as you navigate through the journey of parenthood, make sure you have a screen protector that optimizes your experience. For me, that’s definitely going to be #intelliARMOR.
