Or “Grandma” as the kids have trained me to call you for these past few years.
I know I roll my eyes a lot–
like when you put bandaids on their nonexistent bo-bos.
or when you bring over your latest haul of new clothes for them.
when you let them destroy your house and then insist that we leave the mess for you to clean up later.
or when you invite him to bake with you and he spills half the ingredients and kneads the dough on the cupboard, but you just smile.
(This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Zapbest)
I know I say things like, “Ohhhh, Grandma,” when you drop her off with a blue slushy in her hands (and all over her face). Or that toy he already asked me to buy six times (and I explained how toys cost money which we are not made of).
I know I sigh in exasperation when we’re far past nap time, but you’re still lagging behind with the kids to take in all of the sights and sounds together. Or when you’ve given into the requests for a fourth, fifth, and sixth bedtime story. Or when you pick up the fussy baby who really just needs to learn how to fall asleep alone.
I know that we don’t always see eye to eye on everything regarding my children. But I also realize that you and I have entirely different functions in their lives. And while I tend to be more pragmatic, you tend to be more patient. I’m frugal; you’re generous to a fault. I’m every day, and you’re the special day. I’m the life lessons and you’re the fun escape. They’re my work but they’re your reward after all of your years of work. I’m Mom and you’re Grandma. We both love them, and we both want the best for them. And the best is a combination of my care and your compassion.
So I’m here to say thank you.
Thank you for loving your grandchildren so well and in ways that only you can. Thank you for making them feel special on their most ordinary days. Thank you for adoring them even when they’re little monsters. Thank you for loving me by loving them.
Thank you that you’ve been right here where I am. You get it and you paid your dues: you lived through the years of pragmatism and frugality. You worked in the every day of motherhood. You’ve been exhausted and you’ve wished the hard days away. But now you’re wiser; you know more about savoring time and making memories and loving the little quirks that make them kids.
Thank you for bringing all of that love, wisdom and experience into our family. Thank you that you do it all even though I roll my eyes more than I stop to really thank you.
Really, thank you.
And to express our gratitude to the wonderful woman that we get to claim as Grandma, my boys helped me pick out a T-shirt just for her. It was hard to choose from all of the funny, witty, cute options that Zapbest had to offer, but we finally settled on this one:
My boys were thrilled to give a gift to the ultimate gift-giver in their life. It fit her well and her personality perfectly. Plus it melted her heart; she absolutely loved it.
And I loved the value! The shirt you see here is under five dollars! An easy thing for the kids to buy with their very own money. Plus, my friends at Zapbest gave me a coupon code to pass along to you cool people for 20% off your entire purchase! –> (tomoson20) Click here to say thank you to the Grandma in your life!
